Physical therapists assess the patient and develop a therapy treatment program to help the patient restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability following disease, injury, surgery, or loss of a limb. The physical therapist will administer, instruct, and motivate the patient through exercises to improve or maintain muscle function. An occupational therapist will also assess the patient and develop a treatment program. The occupation therapist will provide instruction and exercises in self-care, such as dressing and bathing, homemaking, or in learning to live more independently with a disability. The occupation therapist also assesses the home environment with regards to patient safety.
